Airtight canisters come in many shapes and colors. If you are not sure whether the canister will keep the air out then there are a few ways to check before you purchase the canister. Open up the lid of the canister and look at the rim on the lid. There should be a rubber gasket wrapped around the rim if it is airtight. When the lid is sat on the canister you will have to give it a firm push to get the lid to close. If the lid has a gasket you might see some metal hooks on the lid. The hooks are for the oval metal piece that is connected to the container.

All you have to do is place the metal pieces in the hook of the lid then push the lever in. Now the canister is as airtight as it will ever be. Airtight canisters can be made from a durable plastic, glass or even metal products. There is no limit on the colors that are available. The canisters can sit on the counter, in the cupboard, the refrigerator or even in your lunch box. Some of the canisters are even stackable so they take up even less space than if you had to sit them side by side. The really nice thing about these canisters is that many of them are dishwasher safe. This is nice if you are in a hurry and do not have time to wash them by hand.

Airtight canisters can serve around the house in a number of ways. If the canister is used in the kitchen then there are a number of things you can put in it. They are nice for keeping your fresh coffee grinds tasting fresh. If you have noodles that you cook with then place them in the container so they will never go stale again. If you are going to a friend’s house and have to take a dish then cook the food on the stove and place it in the container.

The airtight lid will help keep the food warm until you arrive and there will not be a mess from where everything came splashing out. If you own a small animal like a cat, hamster, etc then the canister can hold their food. The airtight lid will keep the food fresh for them so it does not become stale. An added advantage is that when the kids go running through the house and knock the canister over, the food will stay in the canister and not spill all across the floor.
